Laptop Battery Tips

Optimizing laptop battery usage is very important to increase the battery life and performance.

Following are the Top tips to optimize the laptop battery :

  • Buy smart: Look for notebooks with low power consuming processors like the Intel’s “CULV” “Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage” processors or AMD processors with “cool & Quiet” feature.
  • Dim screen brightness: Choose an environment with adequate lighting—less brightness means you’ll drain less power from your battery.Use the Function key (Fn) available in most of the laptops to dim the brightness.
  • Run your applications wisely: To get the most from your laptop, even when multitasking on the go, run resource intensive applications just when actively using them. Then make sure to close the applications you aren’t using.Running Video on the laptop will consume the battery very fast.Avoid to run video almost all time.
  • Close unused applications: Programs will still use power while sitting idle. Also some unrequired background processes can be closed using the task manager.Stop such processes from starting at boot.
  • Have the right RAM for your needs: With appropriate RAM, instructions run off memory instead of disk. Less power is needed to refresh the RAM than to spin the hard drive. So increasing the RAM in in the laptop with high resource usage works will highly improve the battery life.
  • Clean your battery: Rub the battery’s metal contacts with rubbing alcohol every two months. Allow to dry before re-inserting.
  • Remove extra accessories: Unplug items like PC cards, USB and FireWire devices that are not being used.
  • Use built-in power management devices: Enable this feature and set your system to “Battery Optimized” mode or “Max Battery” mode. Put your computer to sleep earlier and turn off the screen backlight sooner.Start > Control Panel > Power Options (in Classic View).
  • Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if not being used: Wireless LAN and Bluetooth access uses power even when it is not in use. Transmitting and receiving data drains the battery.
  • Defragment your hard drive regularly: The built-in defrag utility included with Windows will take your file fragments and put them closer together on your hard drive, which will decrease hard drive access times and save battery life.
  • Use Direct Power as much as possible : Keep your laptop connected to the direct power supply using the laptop power adapter as much as possible.
  • Connect laptop to UPS supply : If possible then connect your laptop to UPS supply. This will save your laptop from power fluctuations and if there are frequent power cuts then your laptop battery life-cycle will not be wasted.
  • Use battery only when on move : Try to power laptop through battery only when you are on move or if there is no power supply.

worlds most strangest underground

Hundreds of Gaza merchants throng around the border area of Rafah every day to pick up merchandise coming to Gaza from Egypt via subterranean passages.
Gaza's markets are seriously lacking in merchandise due to strict Israeli restrictions on what the country may and may not import. Goods are dropped into and received from the underground network via elaborate pulley systems.
They are then carried down the length of the 1,000 metre tunnels. The network operators have the ability to handle all sorts of products including fuel, computers and clothes.
Underground livestock smuggling has increased dramatically ahead of Eid Al-Adha, a day when Muslims the world over slaughter animals and feed the poor to seek God's forgiveness. The tunnels also ferry people who cannot leave or enter Gaza, but no one may smuggle arms or drugs through the tunnels.
After travelling through the underground tunnel, the frightened cattle is sold, making a heavy profit for those who risk their lives in the dangerous tunnels. Palestinian officials say at least 45 workers have died this year because of cave-ins.
Hamas, which seized control of Gaza in 2007, see the tunnels as an act of defiance against Israel. They, therefore, endorse them and it is even claimed that taxes are imposed upon the underground routes.

Crazy man scared of heights just inch

With just an inch-wide strip of material separating him from a drop twice the height of Canary Wharf, this is Austrian daredevil Heinz Zak practising the new craze of 'highlining' in the German Alps.

These never-before-seen pictures show danger man Zak tiptoeing along at the peak of Germany's highest mountain - the colossal 1,746m Zugspitze.

And if that isn't terrifying enough - he even completed a 10-metre section of the crossing without a safety line.

Highlining requires nerves even more steely than tight-roping because participants take their precarious steps along a loosely anchored strip instead of a rope made rigid through tension.

It means the highline will bounce and wobble as they shift their weight taking each measured step.

Heinz walked three knee-trembling sections at the Zugspitze in turn, covering a total of 70 metres.
'A highline had never been attempted before at the Zugspitze and I wanted to conquer it,' he said.
'It was difficult to complete all three stages as the area is very exposed to wind. This made the middle section with no safety line more challenging.

'We had to keep coming back over several days to weigh up if we could attempt each section.'

For the past eight years Heinz has toured the world looking for the perfect spots to practise his art.

Today he is regarded as a pioneer who led the sport's development and currently booming growth in Europe.

But defying anyone who thinks he's just another stuntman looking for the next rush, the daredevil, from the Austrian town of Scharnitz, oddly said it's all about finding peace and 'losing himself'.

'What I do is not about adrenaline,' he said. 'Walking a highline is my way. It's just what I do.'

To achieve his miracles at dizzying altitudes, Heinz puts all his faith in equipment that includes the one-inch polyester line.

'One problem is that when it is taut and taking my weight, the slightest snag on a rock could break the line," he says.

Super-fit Heinz stays in perfect shape but it's days of mental preparation he values the most.

Like a bobsleigh pilot who must know every twist and turn on his track to avoid death, Heinz runs through each attempt repeatedly in his mind before stepping out.

'When I attempt a walk at the edge of my limits I just have to think it through over and over before I I go up,' he said.

'You have to see yourself taking each step and reaching the end.
